Passacaglia

An exploratory program sustained by the repetitive bass lines characteristic of the passacaglia.

Passacaglia reveals surprising musical connections by interweaving a 400-year-old passacaglia by Frescobaldi with more modern occurrences of the same genre by Caroline Shaw, Anton Webern, György Ligeti, R. Murray Schafer, and a new commissioned work by Canadian composer Rose Bolton.

This show premiered at Bain Mathieu in Montréal in May 2022.
